Ninety-seven Nigerians have been deported South Africa to swell the numbers that have recently been deported from some other countries.
The latest set of deportees arrived the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) on Monday night
Daily Trust gathered that they were deported for civil and criminal offences barely four days after 43 Nigerians were deported from Italy, Belgium and Germany.
Prior to the last Thursday’s deportation from Europe, many Nigerians had been repatriated from Libya.
Six of the latest deportees were repatriated allegedly for drug offences, 10 for criminal offences and others for immigration related offences.
The deportees were received on arrival by officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) who profiled them while those deported for drug and criminal offences were immediately handed over to the appropriate agencies for further actions.
The deportation of Nigerians from South Africa has come at a time of simmering tension over rising xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in that country.
