How to arrange question to get to the core meaning using thinking as example
What is thinking?
Let us first notice that this is a what questions .The what question is after the nature of something and to determine the nature of what is inquired about is not always easy.when we want to answer what questions we should first differentiate things from activities and qualities.Whatever exist is either a thing or an action, or a quality. So when we ask:What is thinking? We must first agree that it isvan activity. Activities however can be of two types, physical activities that involve bodies and non physical (spiritual) activities that cannot be explained in a strictly physical way. Then which kind activity is thinking: physical or non-physical activity? Philosophers have been at variance in their answers to this question.
From the point of view of Christian philosophy. I say that thinking is non-physical activity that is an activity that does not belong to the body but to mind. But what is mind? Mind is a thing. Yet things can be material and non-material (spiritual). The mind is non-material thing, we may call the mind self or consciousness or soul .mind(or concicousness or soul )is the dynamic source of several nonphysical activities, such as perceiving, experiencing, understanding, judging, dreaming, imaging remembering, recollecting, reflecting, comparing evaluating, reasoning and so on .Thinking is an activity of our consciousness whereby we talk to ourselves. But what is talking?. Talking is using words to express things. But what is a word?A word is very special thing. It is a sign that signifies a concept. What is concept? A concept is a thing of the mind called also idea. The concept is nonmaterial. Thinking is an activity of consciousness whereby we use concept or idrasil in order to understand, to judge and to decide.
From this point you can see how to narrow question to the core to get the hidden meaning.
